Welcome to the Information Literacy Website

With ever-expanding information in a multiplicity of rapidly changing formats, how can anyone keep up?  The 21st century reality is that it is impossible to stay adequately informed in all but the narrowest subject areas.  You can, however, learn to manage information.  Those who learn to effectively and efficiently manage information will emerge as informed leaders.

North Georgia College & State University is committed to a sustained effort to incorporate information literacy throughout the academic and co-curricular experience.  We believe that information literate students will become superior leaders in the classroom, on campus, and in the community.

So what exactly is Information Literacy (IL)?

Information literacy, the topic of North Georgia’s Quality Enhancement Plan, is the ability to know when information is needed and to access, evaluate and use information effectively and ethically.

Information literacy, with its focus on definable skills and critical thinking, supports and extends the institution's overall learning outcomes.

So what is a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)?

The QEP is a new component of Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) reaffirmation process.  It is a project that is linked to the mission of the institution and demonstrates that learning is at the heart of this institution.

We hope you will explore our Information literacy website and visit it often when it is updated.   Also, contact us or any member of the QEP Steering Committee to share questions, comments or successes.
